The joke's on me

So.  Guess who got me good today on April Fool's Day?

Nate.

Yep.  My barely 2 year old beast angel of a child.

It was an early morning start for us this morning.  He got up around 7:30.  I prefer 8:15-ish but it's not like I can control it that much.   By 9 a.m. he was getting a little fussy, whiny and that lasted a few minutes.  Then we pulled out the PlayDoh and there's always some dramz about that at some point.  "Worm Mama, Worm!!"  "NOOO!!! BALL, BALL!!!" And so it goes.  I just chalked it up to getting up early.  Then we were going to head out the door for a quick errand around 11.  Then Nate went into full melt-down mode after I took his socks off to put on the sandals he insisted on wearing.  Once his shoes were on he was all "SOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCKSSSSSSS, MY SOCKS" while being angry and crying and rubbing his socks on his face.  God forbid but I tried to take off his sandals to put his socks back on.  FREAKING A.  It was more than I could take so  I put him down for a nap.  He was fit to be tied (where the hell did that phrase originate??).

So.  Nate in crib.  Me barely in my room to turn on TPIR.  I heard a loud bang which I assumed was Nate hitting his head (he likes to do sometimes when he pissed).

And then... He pulled off the ultimate prank on Mama.

Foot steps in the hallway and into my room.  He was still pissed and screaming but I think at one point I heard him mutter "Now what, biznatch?"

In my naivete, I thought to myself "Self, maybe he was so fired up he had a crazy built up energy that allowed him to propel himself out of his crib."

Mike and I talked on the phone (because of course it's a work day for him) and we discussed IF this may happen again (hahahaha) what will we need to do?  Anchor the dresser to the wall.  Put all the lotions up and out of his reach.  Start closing his door and putting a safety lock cover thingies on the door knobs.  Convert his crib to the toddler bed so he doesn't injure himself trying to get???

So we have a plan of attack, but we're not gonna need it.  You know, until oh, 3 hours later when Nate wakes up from his nap and hops the rail like he's been doing it all his life.  And then again 10 minutes after bed time and I hear the pitter patter of his little feet looking for me upstairs until he finally goes to the gate and bellows "Mommy".  When I went up there to retrieve he simply said "Hi Mommy!" and let me pick him up and put back down for the night.  At least I hope it's for the night.

So, the little stinker must've been planning his prank for a long time.  He certainly found a trick that will last way longer than just one measly day.  Good one, kid.  Ya got me!

It's a good thing he's so cute.

OMG Amy that's awesome. Little turd.

You could go the route of a crib tent if you really don't want him climbing out, Mindi did that with Riley. Or you could gate his room rather than closing the door.

Once Zack learned how to get out I tried to convert him to a toddler bed but Mr. Creature of Habit had a hissy and we had to put the rail back up. It was just a novelty and then he was over it.

Ms. THANG climbed out shortly after she turned one. I just left the rail down so she wouldn't have as far to climb and put a gate in her doorway. She'd frequently get out and play and fall asleep on the floor. She didn't make a fuss though.
