*sigh*

I saw this quote and it brought tears to my eyes. I can't express how much I love my little boy.

Nathan's Birthday

A Friendly Competition

The Truth

Nice aim, dude.

It's official - I'm a Mom. Yesterday I was burping Nate after he ate and he didn't just give me a burp. I got doused with milk all down my back, under my shirt which got my bra, to the back of my pants, which soaked through and got my underwear. Every single item of clothing I was wearing got marked! Never fear though. Not a drop on him or his clothes! :)

Something's working

Tonight was an absolutely delightful night baby-wise. Mike and I have been brainstorming about how to approach the nightly fussing. Of course at this age, everything is fluid - just because it works once doesn't mean it'll ever work again. It just likes to lull us into a false sense of hope that we'll sleep regularly again in the future. I had baby duty last night and it went well. We kept Nate's room dark unless he was eating. There was no extraneous noise or sounds aside from his lullaby CD. He wasn't as fussy, so I rocked him for no more than about 7 minutes and I put him in his crib. I adjusted the baby posistioner to keep him in snugger and I laid him on his side. I stood by the crib for about 2 minutes waiting for all hell to break loose. I was so pleasantly surprised that it didn't. This worked all three times throughout the night. Mike and I also kept the monitor off in our bedroom and we both slept well. Nate moves around so much in the night and makes little squeals that we could never fully get to sleep.

We are going to try this little routine again tonight. I hope we're on to something. *crossing my fingers!*

I'm in love

Too cute not to share

If you know Bosco, then you know that whenever you or anyone else come in the door he has to bring you something. Sometimes he is frantic deciding what to bring. It's normally his dog baby aka "Baby" or his tennis log or a shoe or a sock... you get the picture. Today I came home and he was picking up my tennis shoe to bring me and I said "No, bring me your baby" and we walked into the living room. He then tried to pick up another shoe and I said "Bosco, where's your baby?" You know what he did? Wait for it...

He went straight to Nathan's bassinet and looked inside for him. How cute is that? He loves his little brother.

So, not only has having a baby in the house been a transition for Mike and me, it's also been a big change for Bosco. He loves baby Nate and he shows his love by licking him every time he walks by. He has been so good lately. He's not getting quite as much attention as before (I am making a conscious effort to spend time with him) but he is going with the flow.

Fresh as a daisy

We gave Nathan his first bath on Tuesday night. We'd been talking about when to do it when Nate decided for us. He projectile vomited up some dinner while lying on the changing table getting a new diaper. So he ended up with spit-up all over, especially in his hair on the back of his head.

Here are a few pics from his adventure. We steamed up the bathroom so he'd be warm and by gosh, he seemed to like it! No fussing at all. There was a pee-pee arc during bath time but we kind of expected that!

Love this nightie! Thanks Auntie Shel!

Nathan Updates

If it's even possible, Nathan gets cuter every day. He is such an absolute joy and my heart swells just thinking of him. He is sleeping like a champ and he's a good eater. He really only fusses when he's got dirty britches or when he's hungry. Milestone: On Wednesday his cord fell off. Of course, I was out doing my mid-day pet visits when Mike called to tell me. It's one of those things that I already feel like I should've been there to witness it.

We had our first appointment with the pediatrician on Friday and we really scored big with Tidewater Childrens Associates and Dr. Ballard. She and the staff were really great. Doc said Nathan's so healthy that he doesn't need to come back until his 2 month check-up. We were thrilled to hear that. So his stats as of yesterday are... 7 lbs 9 oz and 20" long. He has gained about an ounce per day which is good. I already love Dr. Ballard because she said the only thing else she could say about Nathan was that he was gorgeous. Yes, ma'am he is!

Mom came to town on Thursday to stay with us and help with Nate. We've been having a good time and taking lots of pictures.

On Friday, Nathan was really alert after eating in the late afternoon and we played Patty Cake. Mom got a cute video on her flip video. I'm going to try to attach it here:

(Okay - don't think that worked. I'll keep trying to figure out how to attach a video.)
When Mom came up she brought Bosco home too. He is such a loving and protective big brother! Any peep from Nathan and Bosco is first on scene to check it out. He's getting a bit underfoot, but I know it's just because he's excited about all the new goings on around here. Here he is with Nathan:

Got a great picture for Nate's birth announcement! They were ordered, picked up, addressed and in the mail within 24 hours. Check your mailboxes soon.

Today was Nathan's debut with the entire family. He met Great Grandma Connery this morning (it's her birthday, so I think meeting him was a good present!). Dad came up today too and met the little man. It was love at first sight, of course. We went to Nana's tonight for dinner so Nate met his Great Nana, Aunt Linda, Uncle Dave, Jenny, and John. He put on his "I'm such a cute baby" routine so everyone fell in love with him instantly. He slept most of the time, but he showed everyone all the cute faces he can make!

Welcome Baby Nate!

Wow! It's been a whirlwind week. First of all, we are absolutely thrilled that little Nathan is here. He is so perfect, I can't even tell ya! We love him even more than you can believe you can love someone... I now get "a mother's love". You honestly don't know it until you have a child of your own. Mike read a quote somewhere not too long ago that I think is appropriate. "Children fill a void that you didn't know you had."

So, after many looonnggg hours in the car we arrived home late last night. Nate slept like a champ and Mike and I are giddy with all energy we have today. I will post more pictures soon, but here's a start. Isn't he so flipping cute!!!

Nate is here!

Guest poster Amanda here. Mike and Amy are still driving but we've got Baby Nate's birth details and a picture.
Photobucket
He was born at 8:56 am on March 5th (just as Amy predicted), weighing in at 7lbs6oz and 20 inches long.

I can't WAIT to meet him!

Nate is on the way!

Mike got the call about 4:15 a.m. and Nate is on the way. Mom is in the hospital - 6cm and in active labor, water not broken yet. We're rushing around and we'll be outta here soon. Updates later.

Love to all!!

Bathing suits...really?

Mark it on the calendar... Spring 2008 and this is the first time in at least 15 years that I've been excited to shop for a bathing suit. Mike and I went to Target today and I was drawn to the suits. After trying a couple of them on, I found one that I really liked... even on my body. I know - weird. Here's what I got... (clearly not my body, but cute anyway!)

Baby Shower

Big thanks to Amanda and Sallie for planning and throwing a surprise baby shower for me last weekend. It was so much fun! I was happy to see my family and friends and their excitement in welcoming Baby Nate. We played games, we ate lunch, we had sangria, we ate cake, I opened presents - does a day get much better than that? No - it sure doesn't!

Thank you to everyone for your love and generosity!
