Exciting week

Well, it's been an exciting week around here. Alex flew in on Monday for a quick 2.5 week visit. She's so busy this summer that we're lucky to get at least this much time with her! Mike picked her up and took her to her requested lunch spot - Machismo Burrito Bar (one of my favorites...I was working so I just got PB&J on the fly). We went over to the Molnars for a Memorial Day BBQ. It was a great day to be outside and we had so much fun. After our feast of grilled lamb, chicken, baked potatoes, etc we still made room for ice cream cones...then we topped it off with MORE sweet treats by loading up and heading to Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. How gluttonous are we?

On Tuesday Mike was back to work so Alex, Nate, and I headed out on a shopping excursion that landed us at Lynnhaven Mall. We got an unexpected treat when Mike called and said he took the night off and we had tickets to go see the Tides game. Yea! Nate's first baseball game! It was an absolutely gorgeous night for a game - really, we couldn't have asked for better weather. Nate dozed a bit but made it to the 9th inning. We had a wonderful night of togetherness and of course - ballpark food. Alex even tried the fried Snickers bar and reported that it was "terrific". Yumm-o!

Happy Birthday to Michelle on the 27th! We love you!

Mike and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary yesterday. We had a good day and had family dinner at one of our favorite places, Spaghetti Eddies, which I'm sure I've raved about on this blog before.

Here are a few new pictures to keep everyone oohing and awwing over how magically delicious Nate is! :) And yes, I KNOW I'm a dork.

Nate's first trip to NC

Nate and I headed down to Mom and Dad's on Friday. We had a good visit and Nate spent some quality time with Nana and Poppops.
Lounging with Poppops:

I love his new clothes!

Poppops spoils Nate with a new toy:

Relaxing with Nana:

I got my new flip video. I got it in OSU orange!
Tonight I was happy to play around with it. Nate is so frickin' cute! :) I caught his smiles and cooing on video - finally!

Cute pix (as always)

Nate's outfit today was too cute not to share! Thanks Matti for the t-shirt!
Eat - Sleep - Poop

Put Nate in the Snugli today and he loved it. We went to get the mail with Bosco, then went to see Daddy's progress on the fence out back. We came in and he slept while I checked email and started dinner.

I ordered a Flip Video and hope to get it in the next day or so. Nate is smiling and laughing and I'm just dying to get it on video. It's so cute people!

Weekend Re-cap

We had a busy weekend around here. I've been working my tail off since Wednesday and I'm looking for the reprieve that tomorrow will bring. On Friday, Mom and Dad stopped by on their way into to town. We had a nice visit. I especially loved watching Dad make silly faces and noises for Nate! They were up for a Mom's Day weekend visit and their main reason for stopping by the house (aside from doting on Nathan) was to bring me about 50 lbs of toys from Michelle. They bought a new bag in Oklahoma so they could transport the toys back for me. Michelle took batteries out of toys as not to alert airport security in case Mom and Dad had talking luggage! I haven't even gotten through the entire bag yet! Nate will have lots of things to keep his attention - thank you Auntie Shel! Now, I'm off to go find ear plugs for me and Mike. haha

Saturday I had a few hours off from work in the afternoon, so I loaded Nate in the car and we headed down to the Gosport Arts Festival in downtown Portsmouth. It was a nice, cool day - great for strolling around looking at all the goodies. I've been down there before when I wanted to strip off all my clothes because it was so hot. Good thing it didn't come to that. Talk about embarassing your children... The biggest hit of the festival was the freshly made kettle corn!

After browsing for about an hour, I headed over to Nana's house. We had a good visit while Mom and Dad were out and about at the golf store. Mike came over for a bit between the events he was working and we all had a nice time. I convinced Mom, Dad, and Nana to keep Nate while I went back to P-town to make 5 more client visits. (I didn't even have to twist their arms hard!) Mike picked Nate up on his way home around 10:30.

In between my client visits, I indulged in a spa "deluxe" pedicure. It really was one of the best pedi's I've had. They were a bit busy, but I was shown to a massage chair right away and I hung out there reading a magazine and soaking my feet for about 20 minutes. That alone was great! Another 40 minutes, I was out the door, fully relaxed and feeling good! Deee-lightful!

Sunday Mike brought me flowers and he and Nate both got me Mom's day cards. I have to say I was so touched, I cried. It's amazing to be a mother and I can hardly believe I'm so blessed. If you would've told me a year ago that I'd be a mommy by this time this year, I wouldn't have believed it. We went out for a nice lunch, came home and took a 3 hour nap, and ate French toast for dinner. It was wonderful.

Hope all you Moms and Moms-to-be had a great day!

2 month check-up

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today is Nate's 2 month birthday and to reward him we took him for his two month check-up. It was a damn dirty trick because he had to get 6 immunizations - 5 shots and 1 oral. Poor guy. To be expected, he was NOT happy. He's been fussy since but we've been giving him infant Tylenol every 4 hours and it seems to be working. He's finally sleeping without being held in our arms.

Here's a picture of the leg where 3 of the injections were given. The sparkly band-aids make it look like he's wrapped in tin foil!

Nate is up to 11 lb 15 oz and he's 21 1/4" long. He's growing just like he should! He's hit all the major benchmarks - he's smiling, cooing, tracking, etc.

Nate went out with me on Friday and he was so cute in his new little bucket hat! He doesn't looked thrilled, but he wore it for over 2 hours. And it's a rare picture of him with Mommy.

Reflections

I am currently reading Eat, Pray, Love. I'm the "pray" portion of the book and the author is having a hard time focusing on her meditations. The mind tends to wander in the past and in the future - the problem is not being able to just live in the present. I took that to heart yesterday. Nate and I went to a client visit first thing in the morning and then we took pleasure in spending our time together without any worries about anything. The weather was gorgeous and I had the doors and windows open letting in a nice breeze. I listened to the birds chirping and a mower in the distance. It was perfect. I didn't worry about the laundry that was left in the washer or the vacuuming that needed to be done. I relished in the moment of taking in every moment with Nate. Nothing could've been better than his little body on my chest as we took two wonderful naps throughout the day. I want to take in all these daily moments and not let them pass by in a blur of what other things I could be doing. He's our gift and I can't get enough.

When Mike came home this morning, we all went back to bed for a nap. Mike looked at Nate and me and said "this is what I want to remember". *sigh* Even without talking to him about my feelings yesterday, he is feeling the same way. It doesn't get any better than this.
